EMDR Therapy
in New Braunfels, TX
An approach that gets to what talk therapy can't always reach.
EMDR for adults and teens (15+) who are ready to move forward without having to retell the story. EMDR therapy is available across Texas.
"I've tried everything. Why can't I just move on?"
You’ve talked about it. Maybe more times than you can count.
You’ve tried to make sense of it, push through it, and leave it in the past.
But it keeps showing up – in your body, your sleep, your relationships, and the way you see yourself.
You’re not going crazy. Your brain just hasn’t finished processing what happened. And that’s what EMDR therapy is designed to help with.
EMDR Therapy helps you move through the hard stuff and heal without having to relive your trauma.
Does any of this sound familiar?
- Feeling stuck, like no matter what you do, you can't seem to move forward
- Flashbacks or intrusive memories that show up when you least expect them
- A constant sense of being on edge, like something bad is about to happen
- Racing thoughts and an increased heart rate when certain things trigger you
- Nightmares or difficulties sleeping because your brain won't switch off
- Feeling like you've been changed forever by what happened
If this is your reality, EMDR therapy can help you process what's been keeping you stuck and finally move forward.

Owner & Clinical Director
What I tell my clients:
“The most important thing in therapy isn't the techniques, it's trust. You need a space where you can explain your complex emotions and experiences without feeling judged. That's where healing begins, and that's what I'm here to create with you.”
Life shapes us in ways we didn’t choose, and sometimes that leaves us as a version of ourselves we don’t want to be anymore. That’s where therapy can help.
At Mind Oasis Therapy, sessions with Ashleigh feel less like a list of instructions and more like a candid conversation with someone who cares. Together, you’ll work through what’s holding you back, build useful skills, and grow into the version of yourself that makes you feel proud.
Think of us as your oasis in the desert; a place to rest, refuel, and find what you need to keep going.
Our Approach
How Our EMDR Therapy Works
Step 1: Intake Session
We’ll explore your history and symptoms together to make sure EMDR is the right fit for you.
Step 2: Coping Skills
Before we dive in, we’ll identify the grounding and coping tools you’ll need to feel safe throughout the process.
Step 3: Target Sequence Planning
Together, we’ll identify the core beliefs, memories, sensations, emotions, and images we’ll focus on.
Step 4: Desensitization
You’ll recall the target memory while using bilateral stimulation to reduce the distress connected to it.
Step 5: Installation
We’ll replace the negative core belief with a positive, adaptive belief that feels true to you.
Step 6: Body Scan
You’ll check in with your body while recalling the memory. If any tension remains, we keep processing.
Step 7: Closure
Every session ends with grounding techniques to help you leave feeling settled and supported.
Step 8: Reevaluation
At the start of each new session, we’ll check in on any lingering distress and pick up from there.

Questions About EMDR Therapy
We're here for them.
Why does EMDR help when other treatments haven't?
EMDR goes beyond traditional talk therapy. You don’t have to tell the story or talk through your past in detail to process it. When we verbalize trauma, our brains can be subject to retraumatization. EMDR bypasses that by targeting stuck memories directly and unlocking your brain’s natural ability to process them through bilateral stimulation. It replicates what your brain tries to do during REM sleep, and it lets your brain finally finish what it started.
How does EMDR actually work?
EMDR works by having you recall a specific event, feeling, or belief you want to work through, which we call a “target.” From there, we use eye movements, tapping, or sounds to engage both hemispheres of your brain. As your right and left hemispheres start communicating, your brain begins processing the target. You may notice random thoughts, memories, or feelings come up during this process. That’s your brain doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. It’s a unique experience, and questions are always welcome.
How is EMDR different from other types of therapy?
Most therapy works through talking. EMDR works through processing. You don’t have to relive the details or recount your story for EMDR to be effective. That’s one of the biggest reasons clients who’ve struggled with traditional talk therapy find that EMDR finally moves the needle for them.
How should I prepare for an EMDR session?
Come well-rested if you can, and try to keep your schedule light for the rest of the day after your online EMDR session in Texas. EMDR is real work for your brain and body, and processing often continues even after the session ends. Giving yourself space to rest afterward makes a difference.
What are the risks of EMDR?
Because EMDR continues to work between sessions at Mind Oasis Therapy, some clients notice emotional distress, fatigue, vivid dreams, or physical symptoms in the days that follow. This is a sign that your brain is continuing to process what it’s been holding onto, not a sign that something is wrong. These reactions typically subside within a few days, and our goal is to keep working through them in sessions until they’re less and less present.
How many sessions does EMDR therapy need?
Once you and your EMDR therapist move into the processing and desensitization phase, which is typically around sessions three or four, many clients start noticing meaningful improvement shortly afterward. The full timeline depends on your history and what we’re working through together, but EMDR tends to produce results faster than traditional talk therapy.
How is EMDR different from talk therapy?
Talk therapy works primarily through conversation and insight. EMDR works by directly targeting the way your brain has stored difficult memories and beliefs. It’s a more active, neurologically focused process, and it often gets to the root of things faster than talking alone.
Is EMDR right for me if I have trouble managing my emotions?
That’s one of the reasons we spend time building coping skills before we begin processing. If you’re not quite ready to dive into trauma work, we’ll support you in building the tools you need first. EMDR is a collaborative process, and we won’t move faster than you’re ready to go.
Is virtual EMDR therapy as effective as in-person?
Yes. Research and real-world practice both show that EMDR is just as effective online as it is in person. At Mind Oasis Therapy, all EMDR sessions are conducted in-person and virtually across Texas, and clients get the same quality of care and results from their own space.
Does insurance cover EMDR therapy?
In most cases, yes. EMDR is an evidence-based treatment, and many insurance plans cover it as part of mental health services. We recommend reaching out to your insurance carrier to confirm your specific coverage. You can also contact us directly, and we’ll help you with next steps.
